The Analysis of Italian Plant Agrobiodiversity Databases Reveals That Hilly and Sub-Mountain Areas Are Hotspots of Herbaceous Landraces

Landraces are an agri-food and historical-cultural heritage but undergoing losses worldwide. Italy is taking action to counteract this problem by following European guidelines. One of the most important measures Agrobiodiversity National Register (ANR), 12 Italian regions currently appear without any landraces around 80% listed trees, with less detailed data on herbaceous species. The aim study investigate situation for preserved farms (in situ) merging analyzing contained in main databases plant agrobiodiversity Italy. Data were georeferenced, organized botanic families regions, analyzed GIS R. A total 1615 found (versus 416 recorded ANR). Poaceae, Fabaceae, Solanaceae together comprise 70% all mostly preserved/grown areas between 150 800 m a.s.l. Some hilly sub-mountain Apennines Alps hotspots due anthropic environmental factors. results research will be useful enrich ANR trigger actions characterization, conservation, promotion these resources.
